Transformers: Dark of the moon 3D

Transformers: Dark of the Moon(3D)

Cast :- Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Running time :- 2 hours 30 minutes

First question first. If you have seen the earlier Transformers movies, what do you expect from this one? I saw the first movie in chennai in single screen theater, second one yesterday only in home so that I can understand a bit of third one. My expectations from a transformers movie are:-

1. A young boy who will keep running in the movie from decepticons (bad robots) and in the end do something which will help the autobots (good robots) to save the earth.
2. A model young girl who will keep running with the boy to lure the audience with her beauty and basically being as an eye-candy only.
3. Loads of steel machines fighting with each other, destroying the cities and converting from machine to vehicles numerous no. of times.
4. A bit of emotional scenes between machines and our hero.
5. And the most important of all, a wafer thin plot or can say no plot at all. Just a reason so that they can fight with each other is all they require.

I believe if they want, they can create thousands of transformers movies in this line. Even if they repeat the fight sequences, most of us will never be able to identify them. The main question is if I am not a tranformers movie fan, then why did I watch this movie. The only reason was that this movie is in 3D and I wanted to see my first movie in 3D which should have scope of lots of special effects that I can not find in movies like Kungfu Panda or Cars2. And however bad may be the story line of Transformers, they are still considered as the best in terms of special effects.

As I have never seen a 3D before so I was not having much expectations and anyone should not have too with this movie. In the start it looks different with heavy 3D glasses on but slowly it all started to look normal except for the some sequences where depth is involved.

The plot if you call it a plot, starts with the crash landing of a UFO on the moon which was hidden from the world for unknown reasons when USA and later on other countries reached moon. When autobots came to know about this, they reach moon with the help of humans and bring their old leader Sentinel prime from the moon and make him alive with the matrix which optimus has got in second part. Sentinel told them there are hundreds of pillars which are missing from space craft which have power of teleporting any thing.

Autobots get involved in a fight with decepticons to save sentinel prime and then sentinel prime change sides and become ally with decepticons to bring their planet Cybertron to earth. From here onwards again a fight begins to save the earth as it was there in earlier movies.

Shia LaBeouf as Sam has the same role of finding some thing that can prove him to be a hero and save the world. Her GF is  Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in place of Megan Fox in this movie but has the same role of looking attractive and running and screaming. Everything is same even the length of movie which is exactly 2 and half hours. As 3D is being used in this movie so some un necessary extended sequences are there for 3D purpose only. Like soldiers flying in the air for about 5 minutes, reason best known to the director. I believe it was to show the depth only. There are some impressive 3D scenes too like showing the depth in Space craft and people hanging at the time of collapse of building, bumblebee catching Sam in a fight sequence when running to save Sentinel prime. However the catching practice is repeated multiple number of times in the movie :).

Go and watch the movie if you are still a transformes movie fan even after transformers 2. You are not going to miss anything and will enjoy it. But I will say an interval is necessary in a movie of such length which was not provided to us in SPICE cinemas Noida. The reason may be that we may run away with the 3D glasses:). But you will get enough moments to get out of hall and take interval of your own when ever emotional scenes begin as they are bit stretched.

Portrayal of real love..

Recently I got an SMS from my sister. A boy was sweating heavily. When he tried to wipe his face with his girl friend's dupatta she said, "You are dirty and smelling. Stay away and use your own clothe. When he try to wipe his face with his mother's dupatta, mother said, "Son, this is dirty. Let me give you the clean one."
Both ask him to use some other clothe but there is a huge difference lies in the feelings. We used to strive for real love from outsiders ignoring our own family members. Blame it on cinema or literature (however most of us don't read novels now a days), when ever this four letter word LOVE comes, we think about boy-girl love only. This is the highest selling brand for the market whether it is Valentine's day or romantic movies or novels, every one cash on this feeling by showing us the dreams where a boy and a girl love each other so passionately that they can do any thing for each other. This sort of love is not seen even in married people in real life.

Most of us especially boys, keep on looking for girls in our circles and most of the girls try to dress up in the way so that boys give attention to them. This is natural attraction which some times give birth to relationships some times not. Some times they results in marriage, some times in break ups. Some times even one sided relation ships keep a person happy in hope of getting the other person. Some times even both sided relationships are not able to keep the happiness around.

I have been with many friends who have no chance of success in their one sided relationships but still they are happy thinking about the other person or helping her out. These are mostly boys who like some girl and want to get her at any cost (dont know if any girl exists too who can fight for any boy apart from in the movies). Girls used to have different priorities. They want status, family approval, and lots of love from her counterpart always keeping them selves safe.

But hey where is the love in between. For boys it is more of obsession and for girls it is more of possession. I believe real love must be unconditional irrespective of any situation. I will not say unconditional love is impossible but it is very rare. So if you feel that some one loves you truly then try your best to not to let him/her leave you as it is very rare thing. But don't try too hard to get this love as GOD has already created one person for you. That is our MOTHER.

No one can love us more than our mother. For us our mother is the most beautiful woman and for her we are the most beautiful children regardless of our shape and colour and shortcomings.

There is one short story which I like to share here

A little boy came up to his mother in the kitchen one evening while she was making dinner, and handed her a piece of paper that he had been writing on. After his Mom dried her hands on an apron, she read it, and this is what it said:

For cutting the grass: 50.00 rs.
For cleaning up my room this week: 10.00 rs
For going to the store for you: 5 rs.
Baby-sitting my kid brother while you went shopping: 25 rs.
Taking out the garbage: 10.00 rs.
For getting a good report card: 50.00 rs.
For cleaning up and raking the yard: 20.00 rs.
Total owed: 170 rs.

Well, his mother looked at him standing there, and the boy could see the memories flashing through her mind. She picked up the pen, turned over the paper he'd written on, and this is what she wrote:
For the nine months I carried you while you were growing inside me:

No Charge

For all the nights that I've sat up with you, doctored and prayed for you:
No Charge

For all the trying times, and all the tears that you've caused through the years:
No Charge

For all the nights that were filled with dread, and for the worries I knew were ahead:
No Charge

For the toys, food, cloth
es, and even wiping your nose:
No Charge

Son, when you add it up, the cost of my love is:
No Charge.

When the boy finished reading what his mother had written, there were big tears in his eyes, and he looked straight at his mother and said, "Mom, I sure do love you." And then he took the pen and in great big letters he wrote: "PAID IN FULL".

I will say keep on looking for your True Love in the life. But if you are not successful then don't be disappointed. It is not like that you are worthless, you are priceless for your mother.  Love your parents and live for them. When they will be happy GOD will be happy HIMSELF.

Does 1 flat matters so much?

In India most of the engineers like me regardless of the stream end up being a software engineer more because of lack of ample opportunities in other fields and less due to less hard work and more money reason which all the outsiders think of. I will not say software industry involves lots of hard work but it is not a comfortable job also as you have to bear a lot mentally. Some times you are thrashed by your manager and some times by client. Some time you have to work the whole day and night and that too with out any required result and thus more depression in place of any appreciation.

At the time of appraisal you have to prove that why you should be given double digit hikes in place of single digit and all of your justifications can be seen nullified by your manager telling you that it could have been done in a better way. All these and much more is a part of life of software engineer. Most of us must have experienced it.

When the code we have written is being tested by the client that is the most anxious moment that can bring sweating even in the chilled AC environment. However we always have an option of switching and getting into another company. But the condition become same sooner or later. Same meetings, same development and same thrashings. Whether we people work or not, we have lots of self respect for us. We always find some one else who is responsible for our non - working attitude. Some times its manager, some times its nature of work and some times our lack of understanding which also we forced on some other person. If we dont know any thing about the work, we assume that its not the responsibility of us but of the person who assigned it to us.

What ever be the scenario, a common misconception about the industry is that there is lots of money in it and thus the areas where software industry is automatically become double priced from the normal area. From home to cinemas, everything becomes costlier. All the relatives think that he must be earning lots of money and must have been abroad some times. If you have not been abroad specially USA then you are a waste in your life. Parents feel proud that our child has been to outside. Onsite which we usually call it to be outside India is synonym of your capability and worth. But the main reason we want to be abroad is MONEY. This 5 alphabet word rules the world. It is usually said that a home is one of the biggest achievement a person can achieve in his life. As soon as 2-3 years of experience is done, parents start arguing for marriage and after marriage planning of flat is started. Yes A FLAT not a home. In IT affected areas, homes have been replaced by Flats. People live in flats which resemble colonial nests of honeybees and incidentally inspired from them. Thanks to IT, these nests are not cheaper either. You may have to pay more than 25 lakhs for the possession after 3 years in a remote area far away from your office and city for these.

You have to buy a flat even though that is not your native city and even you are not sure of your working location(as well as of your wife if she is working too) in future. So you are trapped now. You have bought a flat and you are bound to location and in some way to that company too.

But you have not bought your flat till now. You need money and for money either take loans for 15-20 years with monthly instalments or
go outside India, far away from your parents and friends just in the hope that you will have enough money to buy a flat and make parents happy. But it does not happen in all the cases. We keep looking for more and more money and thus complete our life in this hunt.

As I may have to go outside NCR too for new job, there is one short story of an Software engineer shared by my brother Neeraj 5 years ago when I have not entered IT industry. You may have read it some where else but it is worth sharing with both IT and non IT people. We all know the truth still we just keep running for the money. Have a shot of it.

As the dream of most parents I had acquired a degree in
Software Engineer and joined a company based in USA, the land of braves and opportunity. When I arrived in the USA, it was as if a dream had come true. Here at last I was in the place where I want to be. I decided I would be staying in this country for about Five years in which time I would have earned enough money to settle down in India.

My father was a government employee and after his retirement, the only asset he could acquire was a decent one bedroom flat. I wanted to do some thing more than him. I started feeling homesick and lonely as the time passed. I used to call home and speak to my parents every week using cheap international phone cards. Two years passed, two years of Burgers at McDonald's and pizzas and discos and 2 years watching the foreign exchange rate getting happy whenever the Rupee value went down.

Finally I decided to get married. Told my parents that I have only 10 days of holidays and everything must be done within these 10 days. I got my ticket booked in the cheapest flight. Was jubilant and was actually enjoying hopping for gifts for all my friends back home. If I miss anyone then there will be talks. After reaching home I spent home one week going through all the photographs of girls and as the time was getting shorter I was forced to select one candidate.

In-laws told me,to my surprise, that I would have to get married in 2-3 days, as I will not get anymore holidays. After the marriage, it was time to return to USA, after giving some money to my parents and telling the neighbors to look after them, we returned to USA. My wife enjoyed this country for about two months and then she started feeling lonely. The frequency of calling India increased to twice in a week sometimes 3 times a week. Our savings started diminishing. After two more years we started to have kids. Two lovely kids, a boy and a girl, were gifted to us by the almighty. Every time I spoke to my parents, they asked me to come to India so that they can see their grand-children.

Every year I decide to go to India. But part work part monetary conditions prevented it. Years went by and visiting India was a distant dream. Then suddenly one day I got a message that my parents were seriously sick. I tried but I couldn't get any holidays and thus could not go to India. The next message I got was my parents had passed away and as there was no one to do the last rights the society members had done whatever they could. I was depressed. My parents had passed away without seeing their grand children.

After couple more years passed away, much to my children's dislike and my wife's joy we returned to India to settle down. I started to look for a suitable property, but to my dismay my savings were short and the property prices had gone up during all these years. I had to return to the USA.

My wife refused to come back with me and my children refused to stay in India. My 2 children and I returned to USA after promising my wife I would be back for good after two years. Time passed by, my daughter decided to get married to an American and my son was happy living in USA. I decided that had enough and wound-up every thing and returned to India. I had just enough money to buy a decent 02 bedroom flat in a well-developed locality.

Now I am 60 years old and the only time I go out of the flat is for the routine visit to the nearby temple. My faithful wife has also left me and gone to the holy abode. Sometimes I wondered was it worth all this? My father, even after staying in India, had a house to his name and I too have the same nothing more.

I lost my parents and children for just ONE EXTRA BEDROOM. Looking out from the window I see a lot of children dancing. This damned cable TV has spoiled our new generation and these children are losing their values and culture because of it. I get occasional cards from my children asking I am alright. Well at least they remember me. Now perhaps after I die it will be the neighbors again who will be performing my last rights, God Bless them. But the question still remains 'was all this worth it?'

I am still searching for an answer................!!!!

X-MEN First Class - Lengthier but not better

X-MEN First Class
Cast:- James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon
Running time:- 2hrs 12 minutes

As originally planned when we went to watch Bheja Fry 2, we were able to see X-men movie at last. As I am not that much good in english, I was willing to watch it in Hindi only and some how I and chiranjit managed to reach cinema hall till 10:45 AM to watch it. As expected in the morning, that too in a not so popular mall, in a movie 3 weeks old and finally our generation obsessed with watching english movie only in english, there were only 10 people in the hall.
We were not sure before the start of the movie that whether they will run the show or not but in the end the show started.

Certainly this movie is the lengthiest movie of X-men series along with X-men 2 or X2 and you may feel this in the movie too. This movie should be the first movie of all the X-men movie which shows how the X-men were called X-men, showing the relationship between Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto. Evolution of Beast and Mystique and some other side kicks which I dont remember to see in earlier movies.

The movie is basically a hunt of Eric(Magneto) for Sebastian Shaw a mutant who killed his mother in front of his eyes as Eric was not able to show his power in his young age. Sebastian wants to start 3rd world war between USA and Russia and want to make mutant community to rule the world. He has his own associate mutants with him like emma frost and azazel. Charles Xavier tried to stop them but not able to succeed, similarly Eric tried to kill Sebastian but failed. Charles and Eric become friends to fight against Shaw. Mystique or Raven is with Charles from childhood. She dont like her blue body and remain in disguise. They meet Dr. Henry who is a scientist and also a mutant with big feet. They create their team of mutants. Shaw attack CIA HQ in absence of charles and Eric and take away a mutant Angel with them killing Edwards an other mutant.

After that story is of training of these teenage mutants and fighting with Shaw and separation of Eric and Charles on the point of partiality by humans with them and thus 2 teams get created which has been shown in earlier X-men movies.

Movie seemed to be bit lengthier and stretched. It could have been atleast 15-20 mins shorter. Side kicks mutants do not impress much. Their fighting scenes with each other dilutes the climax sequence which is not so extra ordinary even. James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier is the best among all the actors or it can be said he is the main hero and is present in most of the frames. Michael Fassbender as Eric is impressive too. There are not much expression from his side as he has been shown either silent or in anger but the role demands this thing only. All the side kicks including Mystique and Beast are just average. They dont impress too much by their acting skills. Plot is quite predictable as this was a prequel and climax could have been much better if more action  would have been there between the major actors rather than side ones.

It is not a bad movie for X-Men fans but still they will feel they have seen better X-men movies than this. It is more like a bollywood movie where 2 brothers choose different paths having different mindsets like Naam starring Kumar Gaurav and Sanjay Dutt :). It was just a reference. There is no copyright issue here :)).

Watch this movie if you are really Big X-Men fan otherwise wait for its premier on any hollywood channel..

Bheja Fry 2 - Mostly irritating, a bit enjoyable

Cast::- KK Menon, Vinay Pathak, Minisha Lamba
Director:- Sagar Ballary
Running Length:- 2 Hours approx

This Friday, I and my friend Chiranjit thought about watching X-men First class by checking the timings on thursday but when we reach multiplex we came to know movie has been removed and now they are showing bheja fry 2. I was not that much interested in watching Vinay Pathak's movie after watching promos those dont seem to be too much promising. However we were left with no much options so we decided to take a risk.

It was indeed a big risk. I have not watched Bheja Fry movie apart from some scenes at my friend Ashwani's room 4 years back. That movie also was not a very humorous one and as it used to happen with a sequel of average hit movie, more efforts are made to make people laugh but in the end irritating them. Same happened with this movie.

Bharat Bhushan is an IT inspector taking part in a game show like Dus ka Dum. It has been decided that he will win the show by the producers which happens usually with these reality shows. KK is a businessman who is owner of fake companies and always keep eyes on women except his wife. He is trying to save himself from IT raid and thus arrest by a honest IT officer (Suresh Menon) and considers Vinay pathak as that inspector. KK decides to throw bhushan into the water from a cruise ship on which he has been invited as a winner of the show but due to some mishaps both are thrown into water and reach an island.

Island part begins after interval. There are lots of characters in the movie. Some are half baked and left as the story moves. Aditi govitrikar(Wife of channel owner), kishwar(secretart of KK), Wife of KK and even minisha lamba are just treated as eye candies mainly for KK. Music is absent in the movie apart from continous singing by Bhushan which is more of irritation than enjoyable.

KK is tense in the movie with one annoying expression. Before interval he is tense about getting rid of island and after interval he just want to get rid of Island and the audience like me wanted to get rid of both bhushan and movie. Vinay pathak reprised the role of always singing person who looks like an idiot to the outer world. This time they stretch the character to the limit of irritation I believe. He always speaking loud and behaving like a deaf person who used to speak a tone louder. I was feeling like theater should put the volume a bit lower for him specially if possible.

His singing irritated us atleast equal if not more than it was irritating for KK. I must say Bhushan has been shown a lovable person with a good nature and you may adore him at some point if you are patient enough to stay in the movie till the completion. Amole Gupte tried hard to make his character humorous but as it seems to be trend of this movie, he was mostly loud and you must have a very good humour sense to laugh on his scenes.

Suresh Menon as a south indian IT inspector and friend of Vinay Pathak also tried hard to make the scenes funny. There are some scenes with Vinay pathak in which they fight over north india-south india but hardly any scene genrate laughter apart from last line on cruise ship in the rest room. Some scenes are funny and most of humour comes from KK's irritation rather than Vinay pathak's dialogues. First half is quite boring, second half is bit stretched but better than first one where only 2 characters KK and Vinay pathak are there and you need to concentrate on them only. Some scenes are un necessary but that is the case with the most of the film.

You can watch this movie in theater if you really need to see any movie as it seems to be better affair than any other released this week. Other wise just wait for the TV release that will not be very far away.

Please put suggestion if any.

Do we really want to learn or to just follow others

Recently there was lots of fuss in the country about colleges' cut off finally reaching 100% and that too with the chances that second list may not come up. It means most of the students who are excellent in their classes or toppers will not be able to study in top colleges. Does it really matters that you have studied in top college if you are efficient enough to do well in studies irrespective of teachers and colleges? It matters to parents and friends and thus to the person who is actually going to study in turn. Though we are human beings but we have mentality of flock of sheep where we just want to follow and not to create a new way. The student take such things to their reputation and thus choose the path of dying than facing the world sometimes  not even thinking about their parents who have done so much hard work to make them reach there.
Famous writer chetan bhagat wrote a short story published in Hindustan times(27th July 2009) about such a student who is depressed by not getting admission in his desired college. A nice story written in his own light way. I thought about sharing it with all my known who can share it with others.

Here is the story:-

Everyone will give you an opinion on how to live your life. No one, no one will give you good advice on how to end it. Worse, they will tell you to continue living, without any respect for individual choice. Yes, hi, I’m Gautam Arora, and after eighteen wonderful years in Delhi, I’ve decided to end my life.

I sat with my best friend Neeraj and his girlfriend Anjali at Costa Coffee, DLF Metropolitan Mall in Saket. The coffee is way overpriced, but considering I had a day to live, I didn’t mind getting ripped off.
“The joke isn’t that funny,” Neeraj said, tearing open the second sachet of brown sugar and mixing it for his girlfriend. If this girl can’t mix sugar in her coffee, I wonder what she will be like after marriage.

“Do I look like I am joking? You are in medical college, and as a friend and someone two years elder to me, I am asking your advice on what is the most painless, graceful way to go. And ideally, it should be available at the friendly neighbourhood chemist,” I said. I ordered a chocolate fudge cake. What are a few extra calories on your last day?

Anjali kept quiet, her iPod plugged in her ears. She had come to the mall to shop with her boyfriend rather than meet me. Neeraj said he only dated Anjali as her father had given her a car and driver, which made it easy to go around. Besides, she looked ok. She was pretty enough to invite a second stare from men, though that’s hardly an achievement in Delhi where men’s standards can be quite modest.
“Dude, you topped your school. How much did you score in your class XII boards again?” Neeraj said.
“Ninety two per cent,” I said.
“Ninety what?” Neeraj said as he ripped out Anjali’s earphones, “Anjali, the dude scored ninety two per cent in commerce! Do you know of anyone who has scored that much?”
Anjali shook her head.
“Wow, you must have studied a lot,” she said.
I nodded. I had done nothing but study in the last two years.
“No time for hobbies?” she said.
I shook my head. My only hobbies were eating three meals and sleeping five hours a day. The rest of the time was with my books.
“With ninety two, you should be fine,” Neeraj said.
“Not according to SRCC, not according to Stephen’s and not according to Hindu, oh what the heck,” I said as I opened my rucksack.
I gave him the special admissions supplement from the newspaper. I had snucked it out early morning so mom and dad wouldn’t see it.
“Wow, check out Lady Sri Ram. B.Com Honours is at 95.5 per cent!” Neeraj said.
“That’s a girl’s college,” Anjali said.
“I know,” I said.
“Don’t worry, he wouldn’t have made it anyway. Anjali, why don’t you go spend some of your father’s money,” Neeraj said and winked at me.
Anjali and I both gave Neeraj a dirty look. Neeraj air-kissed Anjali and gestured to her to leave.
Seriously, don’t kill yourself. To us, you are still the school topper,” Neeraj said after Anjali left.
“So what do I do?” I said, my voice loud, “stay back in school? This topper tag makes things worse. My parents already threw a party for our friends and relatives like I have made it big time in life. I cut a cake with the icing ‘family superstar’.”
“Nice,” Neeraj said.
“Not nice at all. All relatives congratulated my mother. They see me as the next hotshot investment banker on Wall Street. The least they expect me to do is get into a good college in DU.”
“There are still some colleges that you will get,” Neeraj said as I cut him off.
“But none with the same brand value. Thus, you can’t get a decent job after them. You can’t get into the top MBA school.”
Neeraj pushed my coffee cup towards me. I hadn’t touched it. I picked it up and brought it close to my mouth but couldn’t drink it.
“I made one tiny calculation error in my math paper,” I said, “read one stupid unit conversion wrong. That’s it. If only...”
“If only you could chill out. You are going to college, dude! Branded or not, it is always fun.”
“Screw fun,” I said.

“What kind of kids are they taking in anyway?” Neeraj said, “you have to be a bean-counter stickler to get ninety seven per cent. Like someone who never takes chances and revises the paper twenty times.”
“I don’t know, I revised it five times. That stupid calculation...”
“Gautam, relax. That paper is done. And sticklers don’t do well in life. Innovative and imaginative people do.”
“That’s not what DU thinks. You don’t understand, my father has proclaimed in his office I will join SRCC. I can’t go to him with a second rung college admission. It’s like his whole life image will alter. Hell, I won’t be able to deal with it myself.”
An SMS from Anjali on Neeraj’s phone interrupted our conversation. At Kimaya, tried fab dress. Come urgently, want your opinion. Neeraj typed the reply back. Honey, it looks great. Buy it.
Neeraj grinned as he showed me his response. “I think you should go,” I said. Rich dads’ daughters can throw pretty nasty tantrums. Neeraj took out the money for coffee. I stopped him. “My treat,” I said. Leave people happy on your last day, I thought. “Of course, I take this as your treat for cracking your boards,” Neeraj said and smiled. He ruffled my hair and left. I came out of the mall and took an auto home.
I met my parents at the dinner table. “So when will the university announce the cut-offs?” my father said.
“In a few days,” I said. I looked up at the dining table fan. No, I couldn’t hang myself. I can’t bear suffocation.
My mother cut mangoes after dinner. The knife made me think of slitting my wrists. Too painful, I thought and dropped the idea.
“So now, my office people are asking me, ‘when is our party?’,” my father said as he took a slice.
“I told you to call them to the party we did for neighbours and relatives,” my mother said.
“How will they fit with your brothers and sisters? My office people are very sophisticated,” my father said.
“My brothers are no less sophisticated. They went to Singapore last year on vacation. At least they are better than your family,” she said.
My father laughed at my mother’s sullen expression. His happiness levels had not receded since the day I received my result.
“My office people want drinks, not food. Don’t worry, I’ll do another one for them when he gets into SRCC or Stephen’s.”
My father worked in the sales division of Tata Tea. We had supplied our entire set of neighbours with free tea for the last five years. As a result, we had more well-wishers than I’d have liked.
“Even my country head called to congratulate me for Gautam. He said – nothing like Stephen’s for your brilliant son,” my father said.
“Gupta aunty came from next door. She wanted to see if you can help her daughter who is in class XI,” my mother said.
Is she pretty, I wanted to ask, but didn’t. It didn’t matter.

I came to my room post dinner. I hadn’t quite zeroed down on the exact method, but thought I should start working on the suicide letter anyway. I didn’t want it to be one of the clichéd ones – I love you all and it is no one’s fault, and I’m sorry mom and dad. Yuck, just like first impressions, last impressions are important too. In fact, I didn’t want to do any silly suicide letter. When it is your last, you’d better make it important. I decided to write it to the education minister. I switched on my computer and went to the Education Department website. Half the site links were broken. There was a link called “What after class XII?” I clicked on it, it took me to a blank page with an under construction sign. I sighed as I closed the site. I opened Microsoft Word to type.
Dear Education Minister,
I hope you are doing fine and the large staff of your massive bungalow is treating you well. I won’t take much of your time.
I’ve passed out of class XII and I’ve decided to end my life. I scored ninety-two per cent in my boards, and I have a one foot high trophy from my school for scoring the highest. However, there are so many trophy holding students in this country and so few college seats, that I didn’t get into a college that will train me to the next level or open up good opportunities.
I know I have screwed up. I should have worked harder to get another three per cent. However, I do want to point out a few things to you. When my parents were young, certain colleges were considered prestigious. Now, forty years later, the same colleges are considered prestigious. What’s interesting is that no new colleges have come up with the same brand or reputation level. Neither have the seats expanded in existing colleges fast enough to accommodate the rising number of students.
I’ll give you an example. Just doing some meaningless surfing, I saw that 3.8 lakh candidates took the CBSE class XII exam in 1999, a number that has grown to 8.9 lakh in 2009. This is just one board, and if you take ICSE and all other state boards, the all India total number is over ten times that of CBSE. We probably had one crore students taking the class XII exam this year.
While not everyone can get a good college seat, I just want to talk about the so-called good students. The top 10 per cent alone of these one crore students is ten lakh children. Yes, these ten lakh students are their class toppers. In a class of fifty, they will have the top-5 ranks.
One could argue that these bright kids deserve a good college to realise their full potential. Come to think of it, it would be good for our country too if we train our bright children well to be part of the new, shining, gleaming, glistening or whatever you like to call the globalised India.
But then, it looks like you have stopped making universities. Are there ten lakh top college seats in the country? Are there even one lakh? Ever wondered what happens to the rest of us, year after year? Do we join a second rung college? A deemed university? A distance learning programme? A degree in an expensive, racist country?
Your government runs a lot of things. You run an airline that never makes money. You run hotels. You want to be involved in making basic stuff like steel and aluminum, which can easily be made by more efficient players. However, in something as important as
shaping the young generation, you have stepped back. You have stopped making new universities. Why?

You have all the land you want, teachers love to get a government job, education funds are never questioned. Still, why? Why don’t we have new, A-grade universities in every state capital for instance?
Oh well, sorry. I am over reacting. If only I had not done that calculation error in my math paper, I’d be fine. In fact, I am one of the lucky ones. In four years, the number of candidates will double. So then we will have a college that only has 99 per cent scorers.
My parents were a bit deluded about my abilities, and I do feel bad for them. I didn’t have a girlfriend or too many friends, as people who want to get into a good college are not supposed to have a life. If only I knew that slogging for twelve years would not amount to much, I’d have had more fun.
Apart from that, do well, and say hello to the PM, who as I understand, used to teach in college.
Yours truly,
Gautam
(Poor student)
I took a printout of the letter and kept it in my pocket. I decided to do the act the next morning. I woke up as the maid switched off the fan to sweep the room. She came inside and brought a box of sweets. A fifty-year-old woman, she had served us for over ten years. “What?” I said as she gave me the box. It had kaju-barfi, from one of the more expensive shops in the city. The maid had spent a week’s salary distributing sweets to anyone known to her. “My son passed class XII,” she said as she started her work. “How much did he score?” I said, still rubbing my eyes. “Forty two per cent. He passed English too,” she said as her face beamed with pride. “What will he do now?” I said. “I don’t know. Maybe his own business, he can repair mobile phones,” she said.

I went to the bathroom for a shower. I realised the newspaper would have come outside. I ran out of the bathroom. I picked up the newspaper from the entrance floor. I took out the admissions supplement, crumpled it and threw it in the dustbin kept outside the house. I came back inside the house and went back into the shower.
I left the house mid-day. I took the metro to Chandni Chowk and asked my way to the industrial chemicals market. Even though I had left science after class X, I knew that certain chemicals like Copper Sulphate or Ammonium Nitrate could kill you. I bought a pack of both compounds. As I passed through the lanes of Chandni Chowk, I passed a tiny hundred square feet jalebi shop. It did brisk business. I thought my last meal had to be delicious. I went to the counter and took a quarter kilo of jalebis.
I took my plate and sat on one of the two rickety benches placed outside the shop.
A Muslim couple with a four-year-old boy came and sat on the next bench. The mother fed the boy jalebi and kissed him after each bite. It reminded me of my childhood and my parents, when they used to love me unconditionally and marks didn’t exist. I saw the box of Ammonium Nitrate and tears welled up in my eyes. I couldn’t eat the jalebis. I came back home. I wondered if I should use my chemicals before or after dinner. Maybe it is better after everyone has slept, I thought.

We sat at the dinner table. Dad had told mom not to cook as he’d brought Chinese takeaway for us. Mom brought the soya sauce, chilli oil and the vinegar with cut green chillies in little katoris. We ate American chopsuey on stainless steel plates. I looked at my watch, it was 8 pm. Three more hours, I thought as I let out a sigh.
“One thing Kalpana,” my father said to my mother, “job candidates aren’t what they used to be these days. I interviewed for new trainees today, disappointing.”
“Why, what happened?” my mother said.
“Like this boy from Stephen’s, very bright kid. But only when it came to his subjects.”
“Really?” my mother said.
“Yeah, but I asked him a different question. I said how would you go about having a tea-shop chain like the coffee shop chains, and he went blank,” my father said, an inch of noodle hanging outside his mouth. My mother removed it from his face.
“And then some kid from SRCC. He topped his college. But you should have seen his arrogance. Even before the interview starts, he says ‘I hope at the end of our meeting, you will be able to tell me why I should join Tata Tea and not another company’. Can you imagine? I am twice his age.”

I could tell my father was upset from his serious tone.
“If you ask me,” my father continued, “the best candidate was a boy from Bhopal. Sure, he didn’t get into a top college. But he was an eighty per cent student. And he said ‘I want to learn. And I want to show that you don’t need a branded college to do well in life. Good people do well anywhere.’ What a kid. Thank God we shortlisted him in the first place.”
“Did he get the job?” I said.
“Yes, companies need good workers, not posh certificates. And we are having a meeting to discuss our short listing criteria again. The top colleges are so hard to get in, only tunnel vision people are being selected.” “Then why are you asking him to join Stephen’s or SRCC?” my mother said.
My father kept quiet. He spoke after a pause. “Actually, after today, I’d say don’t just go by the name. Study the college, figure out their dedication, and make sure they don’t create arrogant nerds. Then whatever the brand, you will be fine. The world needs good people.”

I looked at my parents as they continued to talk. Excuse me, but I have a plan to execute here. And now you are confusing me, I thought. “So should I study some more colleges and make a decision after that?” I said. “Yes, of course. No need for herd-mentality. Kalpana you should have seen this boy from Bhopal.”
Post-dinner, my parents watched TV in the living room while eating fruits. I retracted to my room. I sat on my desk wondering what to do next. The landline phone rang in my parent’s room. I went inside and picked it up.
“Hello Gautam?” the voice on the other side said.
It was my father’s colleague from work.  “Hello, Yash uncle,” I said.  “Hi,” he said, “congratulations on your boards.”  “Thanks uncle,” I said, “dad is in the living room finishing dinner, should I call him?” “Dinner? Oh, don’t disturb him. Just tell him his mobile is with me. It is safe. We were on a field trip today. He left it in my car.” “Field trip? For interviews?” I said. “What interviews? No, we just went to the Chandigarh office,” he said.

I wished him good night and hung up the phone. I switched on the bedside lamp in my parents’ room. Confused, I sat down on my father’s bed, wondering what to do next. To make space, I moved his pillow. Under the pillow lay a crumpled newspaper. I picked it up. It was the same admissions supplement I had tossed in the bin this morning. My father had circled the cut-offs table.
I left the newspaper there and came to the living room. My father was arguing with my mother over the choice of channels. I looked at my father. He smiled at me and offered me watermelon. I declined.
I came back to my room. I picked up the chemical boxes and took them to the toilet. I opened both boxes and poured the contents in the toilet commode. One press, and everything, everything flushed out.
“Gautam,” my mother knocked on the door, “I forgot to tell you. Gupta aunty came again. Can you teach her daughter?”
“Maybe,” I said as I came out of the toilet, “by the way, is she pretty?”

Paanch Movie Review - An experience

Recently a movie Shaitan got released under the Anurag Kashyap production. As usual I was going through the reviews of it and at many places I read that it is an upgraded version of 10 years old movie PAANCH directed by Anurag Kashyap himself. I was having faint memories of promo of this movie but did not remember what happened with the movie. As the promo were suggesting it was a low budget movie with low profile star cast with the only famous one KK Menon and incidentally my favorite.

While surfing the internet for movie, I came to know that this movie was banned completely. This was a new thing to me as I was aware that censor board cut some scenes from movies but did not know that a movie can be banned completely. The reasons given were:-

1. It glorifies drug.
2. There is no social message.
3. There is no positive character.

What a stupidity it was. So there was more curiosity to see this movie. Actually the things those are banned attract us more or you can say we have the habit to enjoy the controversies. I looked around the internet to get the torrent for this movie and to my surprise I got the torrent easily. Dont know from where the torrent came as the movie was neither released in theater and not on DVD. It was a preview copy that some how might have leaked.

After watching and even while watching the movie, I felt for Anurag as each and every character in the movie has given his/her best performance. You can count the actors in the movie on fingers. There were no more than 10 actors and thats why you can observe the performance of each and every actor.

The movie is tightly scripted and there is no much violence and no vulgarity at all. There is use of abusive language but that is now a common trend in movies now a days and can be easily avoided at that time too by silencing or beep sound as done in online copy. There are no brutal killing sequence or sex scenes. Though 10 years have passed yet this movie can compete with any latest movie in direction or cinematography.

The story is basically of five people who can not be called friends exactly but a member of Rock band who are addicted with drugs and perform sometimes. They are bonded by needs as they dont have any other work. One of the member is a girl Shuilli(Tejaswini Kolhapure) and one of the member have a feeling for him however she run after money only and thus with new boys everyday. Luke (KK) is the head of group and very aggressive. The place where they live belongs to father of one of their friends. Everytime they perform something bad happens and they are without money again. Someone suggested them to create an album but it will require lakhs of rupees which they dont have.

The friend who is the owner of the flat where they live suggested them that they can kidnap him and ask for ransom from his father. Luke liked the idea and after reluctance everyone agreed for shortcut. They asked for ransom from his father who is friend of sharp inspector (Sharat Saxena). On the other hand Shuilli was also included in the plan by his lover against the will of Luke. Luke becomes angry and had an argument with the kidnapped friend and killed him in anger.

From here the movie starts to run on full pace. There are some strange sequences too which you may think why it is happening or why they are behaving like this such as dancing in his friend's house and starting the music system when they were stealing money from the house. But when you will see the climax you will understand each and every thing.

There are enough twists in the movie to keep you engaged. Sometime is becomes predictable as many movies have been made on this theme but you can not be sure of your prediction till you see it. Performances are very good by each and every actor. KK is the best actor along with Ajay Devgan in current hindi movie industry and he has proved it here also. His arrogant and beasty character will keep you glued to screen. Tejasvini Kolhapure sister of Padmini kolhapure (Old hindi actress as well as producer of movie) is very good in her cunning lady performance. She could have gone quite a long way after this movie as she can act much better than most of the actress of recent time. But talent is not enough, luck is the most important thing which she was not having. Though a movie based on rock band, there is no much music in the movie hardly 3 songs are there. But there is no chance of getting bored in those songs as they have been aptly compiled and sang according to theme of movie.

Though the censor board stated that there is no social message in the movie but I will say there was a great social message in the end which many of the baseless movies dont provide. Movie Kaante that was released just 2 years after this does not have any positive character too as well as no message at all still censor board passed it.

I must say that this movie should be released at that time and is quite relevant this time too. Hats off to Anurag Kashyap for thinking beyond time. You may feel that you have seen it but thats not because of reason that the idea was old. The only reason will be that many directors have seen the movie and took ideas from it. Dont know whether Shaitan is the same movie in the new pack but still original is original :) and anurag you will agree with me on this too.

Thanks Anurag for creating this gem.

If anyone not able to find torrent and is not sure about reliabililty of it, Please post a comment asking for it. I will provide you the link.

Love you all

My First blog.....Dedicated to my Parents

Hello All..

Welcome to my world. I am a usual man having common views neither too political nor too analytical. Not sure how many of you will ever come across this blog in infinite world of internet and so much busy lives that even 24 hours are not enough to talk to our loved ones.
I have been a victim of this too. Once a time I have so many people to share but I did not want to. Now I have no one to talk and have so much to share. People usually takes my behaviour in negative sense as I talk bluntly without any other's influence but in reality I am just expressing my views.

Now a days we have so much for entertainment, TV, mobile, Internet, Multiplexes, Malls. Even Indian cricket is available 12 months. We can waste whole day on these things but dont have time to talk to our dear ones. Sitting in front of TV, surfing net on mobile (Now 3G is available so you can see videos too). Mobile phones are there so in place of meeting we can directly talk to each other. But in our busy lives we dont have time to even dial a number and talk for 15 minutes.

Today's generation, even me can waste time in refreshing FaceBook(Earlier Orkut which is no longer used atleast in India) page to see if anyone has posted anything new so that we can comment. When mobile phone was invented then it must have been thought that people will communicate more and more but now even to wish birthdays they will just put a message on facebook wishing "happy birthday, have a blast", "Where is my party". like they will come to take party.

We are becoming more and more formal everyday and just like to talk when want to kill time or have some work. I am not complaining to anyone. This is mine case too. But when you feel that you love someone then you should arrange time for him/her. If you are not able to get time for that person and can spend time on social networking sites then something is wrong. very wrong and needs immediate correction.

Give a look to your parents. How much they look at you for your time and love. They have done so much for you and want nothing else apart from your attention. Love them to the fullest. They are always there for you what ever be the situation or condition. What ever you ask from them, they try their best to provide it to you. I am not a great son and I frequently fight with them but every time I try to improve myself.

Believe me its not that much tough. When ever you fall in love with any girl or boy, you are ready to do any thing for that person. Your parents dont want anything. Just love will do. Give frequent hugs to your parents, listen to them patiently, try to do something which they like.

19th June is Father's day this year. Though these things are not so famous in India but still you can try to so a bit for your father. I am gifting him a card, a family photo and a wallet and yes of-course a warm hug.

Go and celebrate FATHER'S DAY this SUNDAY. Leave everything and give time to the man who has done everything for you...Love your parents because they are the only one who love you even when the world will be hating you....

Thanks for reading and feel very lucky to have parents with you..

Love you all
